Chapter 22 - Julian Learns the Story

At twenty-one, Julian asked for full truth.

Penelope had told age-appropriate versions.

He had read public court summaries.

He wanted details.

Caroline.

Penelope.

Me.

Tobias.

We met at neutral house.

No Garrett.

Penelope began.

“I had affair with your father while he was married to Rosalind.”

Julian nodded.

“I knew.”

“I became pregnant.”

Obviously.

Then:

“I agreed to help him kill Rosalind and Tobias.”

Silence.

Even knowing headline differs from hearing mother.

“Why?”

Penelope did not blame childhood first.

“Because I wanted control of company and a future with him.”

Then she explained resentment.

Not excuse.

Julian asked:

“Did you care if they died?”

Penelope cried.

“At that moment, not enough.”

Good answer.

Then me.

He asked:

“Do you hate my dad?”

“No.”

“Why not?”

“Hate got boring.”

Tobias laughed.

I continued:

“I don’t forgive some choices because they need no emotional label every day.”

Then parents crash.

Garrett did not cause.

Victor did via Mullen.

Garrett hid truth years later.

Important.

Julian asked:

“Did Dad marry you because shipyard?”

“Yes, at least partly.”

“Did he love you?”

“Yes.”

“Both?”

“Yes.”

He looked confused.

Welcome to adulthood.

Then Tobias walking.

Julian already knew.

He asked:

“Were you lying too?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Fear, strategy, ego.”

Penelope looked at him.

Different scale.

Then Julian asked hardest:

“Was I part of plan?”

Penelope closed her eyes.

“Yes.”

He stood.

Walked outside.

No one followed immediately.

Then I went after five minutes because he had asked me before if I would.

He sat on steps.

“So I’m like evidence.”

“No.”

“Dad said real family.”

“Your father used idea of you.”

“That’s worse.”

“Yes.”

Then:

“Do I have any right to company?”

“Not because of crimes.”

“Good.”

He looked at me.

“Why good?”

“I want something that is mine.”

I understood.

He later chose not to work at Hayes Maritime after college.

Joined renewable marine engineering firm in Seattle.

No family empire.

Penelope struggled.

Accepted.

Then Julian married at twenty-eight eventually? That's later maybe.

Then Garrett.

Still incarcerated.

He applied for compassionate transfer due heart condition? Could maybe not. Keep.

At age60? He'd be 60 after 24 years. Sentence 27, may be release around 63 depending credits. Could eventually release supervised. Let's plan final chapters maybe he is released at 61 after 24 years? User age33 at river, Garrett36. 24 years later Garrett60. With 27-year sentence and lawful credits maybe 22-24 served. Reasonable if parole? Federal no parole, state mixed. We can say after roughly 23 years in custody across coordinated sentences and credits, he transitioned to supervised release in early sixties. Need not exact.

Then whether Rosalind meets? Maybe one final mediated at his request, she may refuse or agree. Could have meaningful. But no need for reunion.

Maybe in chapter24, Tobias dies before Garrett? Need complete long-term.

Tobias perhaps dies at 70? Could.

Penelope later dies? not necessary.

Final chapter can be decades later with river ordinary.

May you like

Need chapters 23-25. Chapter23: Garrett release and boundary. Chapter24: Tobias final truth/parents legacy. Chapter25 final closure.

Let's continue.
