Chapter 10 - THE BRIDAL SUITE

Daniel said the key was planted.

Vivian said she had never seen it.

The hotel log made both statements difficult.

The bridal suite had been locked overnight.

Access cards issued to:

Vivian.

Daniel.

Wedding coordinator.

Housekeeping supervisor.

Security had searched only because Arthur requested preservation after learning about the post ceremony signing.

The key was under a dresser near a portable document scanner.

Scanner registered to Mercer Advisory Group.

Daniel said:

“I brought it for closing documents.”

Reasonable.

Then scanner memory showed twelve scanned pages.

Trust summaries.

Crown Harbor term sheet.

Marriage license draft.

Elias voting cooperation agreement.

And one photograph.

Key 47B.

Scanned front and back.

Daniel’s claim that he had never seen the key collapsed.

He changed explanation.

“Vivian gave it to me this morning.”

My mother turned.

“You liar.”

He stared.

“You brought it.”

“No.”

“You said it was Edward’s spare.”

“No.”

For the first time, they were openly accusing each other.

I watched without pleasure.

This was what happened when a plan depended on shared secrecy.

Exposure transforms partnership into arithmetic.

Who carries more risk?

Who signed?

Who stored?

Who can blame whom?

Arthur asked Vivian:

“When did you last enter Edward’s study?”

“Every day. It was my home.”

“After his funeral?”

“Yes.”

“Did you open the lower right desk drawer?”

“No.”

House camera? The mansion had hallway camera maybe. Estate security logs showed Vivian entered study at 1:14 a.m. three nights after funeral.

No interior camera.

Not proof she opened drawer.

Daniel entered at 1:27.

Stayed forty minutes.

Together?

Likely.

Why?

Vivian said:

“We were sorting Edward’s personal effects.”

Three nights after funeral.

At one in morning.

With the man still married to her daughter.

I did not need an affair accusation.

The financial intimacy was enough.

Then household manager testified? We can use written statement. Arthur read a statement from Mary Collins, house manager.

She found Dad’s desk open next morning.

Assumed Vivian had authorized.

One velvet key pouch missing.

Vivian told her:

“Edward gave it to Daniel before he died.”

False, if Dad’s inventory says otherwise.

Arthur had audio from that conversation? Mary wrote incident log.

Not perfect.

Still.

Then we opened 47B.

Arthur inserted key into a smaller lock inside the case.

Dad’s signet ring again.

Click.

A compartment held Elena’s succession documents.

Elias’s twenty three and a half percent interest could not be sold freely until two conditions:

Independent valuation.

Right of first refusal offered to the other Forty Seven branch.

Me.

Daniel had never offered me anything.

That meant even if Elias agreed to sell, I had contractual right to match or redirect purchase under partnership terms.

Daniel knew?

The broker sent him the agreement.

Email:

D. Mercer:

Can Claire’s right be waived after Edward dies?

Broker:

Only by Claire.

Daniel:

Under incapacity?

Broker:

Potentially by court appointed fiduciary. Seek counsel.

My blood chilled.

“Incapacity?”

Arthur looked at me.

No one jumped to poisoning or physical harm.

Good.

Daniel may simply have been exploring legal contingencies.

Still disturbing.

Then another email:

Daniel:

What if Claire signs broad family governance consent before succession?

Broker:

Depends language.

Daniel’s post ceremony plan included my signature.

But why would I attend bridal suite signing?

He expected the blue folder from Dad? Wait user says Claire carried sealed folder Dad hidden for her. Daniel wants it. Maybe he believed it contained my succession waiver and wanted to seize? Let's connect.

The sealed folder I carried had originally been delivered by Dad’s attorney after funeral.

Daniel saw courier notification somehow.

He believed it contained the Founder Trust acceptance form.

If he could get me to sign something that night under the guise of probate receipt, perhaps broad consent.

But user setup says "she brought it because Dad left." Daniel desperately wants. Good.

Inside my sealed folder there was indeed:

Founder Control Acceptance Notice.

Unsigned.

But carefully narrow.

Only acceptance.

No waiver.

Daniel did not know.

He just knew I had the packet.

He needed it before I opened it because if I saw acceptance rights, his narrative of disinheritance collapsed.

That was why he grabbed the clutch? Different story, no clutch. Here he grabs velvet box/folder. Yes.

He had told Vivian:

Claire thinks Edward left her sentimental papers.

Vivian wrote:

Get folder before Arthur speaks to her.

Daniel:

Wedding is easiest.

They planned humiliation?

Maybe. Messages show:

Vivian:

If Claire comes, keep her away from board.

Daniel:

She’ll leave when she realizes nobody believes her.

Vivian:

And if not?

Daniel:

I’ll have security remove her.

So public humiliation was meant to push her out before attorney arrival.

They did not know Arthur planned to come because Claire had called? She didn't. Dad's protocol triggered when board invited and representations discovered.

Then Arthur found one more file on bridal scanner.

A signed document.

Not scanned from paper.

PDF.

Title:

CLAIRE VALE FOUNDER CONSENT.

Signature:

Claire.

Fake.

Created yesterday.

Daniel’s digital certificate?

It used an old e signature token from our marital tax account.

I stared.

They had already prepared my consent in case they could not obtain the real one.

Daniel whispered:

“I never authorized that.”

Vivian:

“Neither did I.”

Metadata author:

Steven Cole.

The board director.

Every head turned.

Continue to the next part: The forged consent meant to replace Claire’s real signature was created by the Vale Global director Daniel planned to make chairman.
