Thomas Vale’s hand shook around the weapon.
Police officers remained outside the accounting wing under the controlled meeting plan.
Dana pressed the emergency signal inside her pocket.
Robert did not move.
“You copied Red Oak files,” Thomas said.
“I copied everything.”
“You told Carol the original would disappear.”
“I told Carol what she needed to hear.”
Thomas looked at me.
“You froze the accounts before we could close.”
“You moved money before the party.”
“We were protecting the company.”
“By locking your son inside my house?”
His face twisted.
“That was Ryan.”
“You knew he threatened Ethan.”
“I thought he was bluffing.”
Every adult involved claimed to misunderstand the level of harm until harm became visible.
Thomas pointed the gun at the drive.
“Give it to me.”
Robert held it loosely.
“If you destroy this, Carol blames you.”
“She already does.”
“Ryan?”
“He says Red Oak acted independently.”
“Then you are the final person still loyal to a partnership that no longer exists.”
Thomas’s eyes moved toward me.
“Claire, tell the board Red Oak was an approved vendor.”
“No.”
“You signed early contracts.”
“Before you created hidden ownership.”
“If Red Oak collapses, investigators examine every project. Thousands of jobs could stop.”
“That threat has been used enough.”
Sirens sounded beyond the factory wall.
Thomas stepped backward.
He raised the gun toward the stairwell.
The metal beneath his foot shifted.
Robert moved suddenly.
He struck Thomas’s wrist.
The weapon fired into the ceiling.
Dana pulled me behind a concrete pillar.
Police entered.
Thomas attempted to run.
He slipped on the lower stair and fell hard.
Officers secured him.
The scene echoed my mother’s death too closely.
Metal stairs.
Financial evidence.
A frightened witness.
This time, cameras recorded every movement.
Thomas survived with a broken ankle.
The gunshot injured no one.
He was taken into custody.

“What does that mean?”
Robert requested a lawyer.
Dana showed him the medical file and protective order draft.
He looked genuinely disturbed.
“I agreed to a trust challenge. Not confinement.”
“Did you know about Dr. Hale?”
“No.”
“Did you know Ryan planned the barbecue provocation?”
“Yes.”
“Did you warn Claire?”
“No.”
“You waited for her to be harmed because you wanted the cameras to expose Ryan.”
Robert closed his eyes.
“Yes.”
He had used my body as evidence without my consent.
His later cooperation did not erase that.
The prosecutor considered charges connected to conspiracy and concealment.
No final decision occurred.
The board published a limited statement.
Ryan remained suspended.
Thomas’s company contracts were frozen.
Carol’s consulting role ended.

Workers received a hotline and legal support.
I refused to let the company describe the fraud as a family dispute.

The transport authorization named Carol as my emergency representative.
Ryan’s name did not appear.
If I entered the clinic, Carol would control my medical access while Ryan filed the trust transfer.

Admission date: the morning after the barbecue.
