I looked at my bruised throat.
“What would the record have said?”
“Voluntary departure. Family medical intervention. No immediate criminal complaint.”
Daniel would have filed the forged deed while I disappeared inside a private facility.
Vivian would have shown guests my supposed breakdown.
Dr. Cross would have written reports.
Luke would have documented the call as resolved.
The assault was not an uncontrolled moment.
It was the visible part of an administrative disappearance.
Caroline’s abandoned vehicle was searched.
The blood belonged to her.
The amount suggested injury but not necessarily death.
Ethan’s fingerprints appeared on the rear door.
A second vehicle had stopped beside them.
Traffic footage showed a black sport utility vehicle registered to Bennett Protective Services.
The driver wore a dark cap.
The passenger was Dr. Cross.
Daniel remained under court restrictions and electronic monitoring.

The building appeared peaceful.

Several patients said relatives had placed them there during property disputes.

A room had been prepared for me.
My name appeared on the door schedule.
Medication orders listed sedation before intake interview.
A suitcase contained clothes taken from my apartment.
Vivian had packed them while I lay on the dining room floor.
Another room carried Caroline’s name.
The bed remained warm.
A bloody bandage sat inside the bathroom bin.
Ethan was not there.
Dr. Cross had brought Caroline to the facility after the failed exchange.
He treated her wound.
Then moved her again before police arrived.
A nurse named Helen Price agreed to speak.
She said Caroline entered conscious and shouting.
Dr. Cross told staff she had attacked a child advocate.

The boy kept asking for his mother.

“Where did they go?” Sarah asked.

The assault, false deed, medical admission, and emergency delay were timed around the transit decision.
Robert filed notice protecting the option.
The city paused the transfer pending investigation.
Daniel’s attorney argued that my injuries impaired decision making.
Dana produced my recorded instructions made before medication.
The option remained under my control.
I directed Robert not to exercise it immediately.

Daniel had hidden environmental conditions beneath the proposed development.
Caroline’s drive likely contained them.
Sarah found one email inside Greenhill’s server.
Sender: Caroline Cross.
Recipient: Claire Bennett.
Subject: Daniel knows what is under the building.
The attachment had been removed.
The message body contained one sentence.
