Chapter 3

For three days, Clara avoided everyone.

She turned off her phone.

Ignored messages.

Refused to talk about the wedding.

Everyone expected her to be angry.

But anger was not what she felt.

It was emptiness.

Because losing Evan was not the hardest part.

The hardest part was accepting that the future she had imagined never existed.

Her father tried to comfort her.

"You made the right decision."

Clara looked out the window.

"I know."

"But why does it still hurt?"

Richard had no answer.

Because sometimes the truth could save someone...

And still break their heart.

Meanwhile, Evan disappeared.

The media assumed he was embarrassed.

Friends assumed he was recovering from humiliation.

But the truth was different.

Evan was searching.

For answers.

For the reason behind the mysterious photograph.

The picture of Clara's mother had been hidden inside a box that belonged to his own father.

A man who had died five years earlier.

Before his death, he had left Evan one instruction:

"If you ever get close to the Bennett family, find out what really happened."

At the time, Evan thought it was meaningless.

A dying man's final words.

But now...

Everything had changed.

Evan returned to his old family house.

Inside a forgotten cabinet, he found another envelope.

This one contained documents.

Old business records.

Contracts.

And a name that shocked him.

Richard Bennett.

Twenty-five years earlier...

Before Richard became one of the richest businessmen in the country...

He had been partners with Evan's father.

They had built a company together.

Until one night...

Everything collapsed.

Evan read through the documents carefully.

His father's company had not failed because of bad decisions.

It had been taken.

By Richard.

Evan sat in silence.

The man he thought was protecting his daughter...

Had destroyed another family.

His father had lost everything.

His reputation.

His career.

His health.

And eventually...

His life.

For the first time, Evan questioned everything.

Had he really fallen in love with Clara?

Or had he approached her because of the anger he inherited from his father?

Was his desire for money...

Actually revenge?

That night...

Evan returned to the Bennett mansion.

Richard opened the door.

His expression immediately changed.

"What are you doing here?"

Evan held the documents in his hand.

"I know what happened."

Richard remained silent.

"You ruined my father's life."

A long pause followed.

Then Richard quietly said,

"Yes."

Evan expected denial.

A fight.

An excuse.

But Richard admitted it.

"I made mistakes."

"Terrible ones."

"But you don't know the whole story."

Richard invited him inside.

For the first time...

The two men who hated each other sat across from one another.

Not as enemies.

But as two people carrying old wounds.

"My partnership with your father ended because he betrayed me first."

Richard explained.

"He stole money from investors."

"He planned to leave me with all the blame."

"I exposed him."

Evan shook his head.

"My father would never do that."

Richard looked at him sadly.

"That's what children believe about their parents."

Then Richard opened a drawer.

He pulled out a letter.

A letter written by Evan's father.

The handwriting was familiar.

Evan read it.

And slowly...

His anger disappeared.

Because the truth was finally clear.

His father had admitted everything.

He had betrayed Richard.

Not the other way around.

Evan lowered the letter.

All these years...

He had carried someone else's hatred.

He had entered Clara's life with a plan.

A plan built on a lie.

Richard looked at him.

"Now you understand."

Evan nodded.

But tears filled his eyes.

"Doesn't change what I did to Clara."

For the first time...

Evan wasn't thinking about money.

Or reputation.

Or winning.

He was thinking about the woman whose heart he had broken.

The next morning...

Evan went back to Clara.

Not with flowers.

Not with expensive gifts.

Not with excuses.

Only the truth.

When Clara opened the door...

She looked surprised.

"Evan?"

He stood there quietly.

"I owe you an apology."

She said nothing.

"I came here because I finally understand something."

"What?"

He looked down.

"I didn't lose you because of my mistake."

"I lost you because I never truly deserved you."

Clara remained silent.

Then Evan handed her the documents.

"My family lied to me."

"Your father wasn't the villain."

"I was."

Clara looked at the papers.

Then at Evan.

For the first time...

She saw regret.

Not desperation.

Not fear.

Real regret.

But before she could respond...

A strange message appeared on Evan's phone.

An unknown number.

One sentence.

"Congratulations. You found the truth."

"Now discover why Clara's mother died."

Evan and Clara looked at each other.

May you like

Because they both knew...

The story was not over.
