Chapter 2

Clara stood in the middle of the rehearsal hall, surrounded by people who had come to celebrate her happiness.
But at that moment...
She felt completely alone.
The man she was supposed to marry was standing in front of her.
The same man who had held her hand.
The same man who had whispered promises about forever.
The same man who had looked into her eyes and said,
"I'll spend the rest of my life making you happy."
Now she knew those words were nothing but a performance.
"Clara, please."
Evan's voice trembled.
Not because he was heartbroken.
Not because he had lost the woman he loved.
Because he was losing everything he wanted.
The money.
The company.
The comfortable life he had planned.
Clara looked at him with tears in her eyes.
"How long?"
Evan froze.
"What?"
"How long have you been pretending?"
The room became silent.
Everyone watched.
No one knew what to say.
Evan opened his mouth.
But no words came out.
Because the truth was simple.
There was no explanation.
No misunderstanding.
No excuse.
He had made a choice.
"I was angry," Evan finally said.
"I didn't mean those things."
Richard looked at him coldly.
"You said them clearly."
"You planned them."
"You laughed about destroying my daughter's future."
Evan turned toward Richard.
"You don't understand."
Richard's expression hardened.
"You're right."
"I don't understand how someone can look at a woman who loves him and see only a bank account."
Clara wiped away her tears.
For months, she had ignored small signs.
The way Evan asked about her father's business more than her dreams.
The way he cared about expensive gifts but forgot important memories.
The way every conversation somehow returned to money.
She had convinced herself that love required patience.

She was wrong.
"I thought you loved me."
Her voice broke.
Evan stepped closer.
"I do."
Clara shook her head.
"No."
"You loved what I could give you."
Those words hurt him more than anger would have.
Because they were true.
The next morning...
The wedding venue was already decorated.
White roses covered the entrance.
The chairs were arranged.
The music was prepared.
Everything was ready.
Except the bride.
Guests whispered as they arrived.
Everyone expected a wedding.
Instead...
They witnessed a goodbye.
Clara walked into the entrance wearing her wedding dress.
But she wasn't walking toward Evan.
She was standing beside her father.
Her expression was calm.
Stronger than anyone expected.
Evan rushed toward her.
His expensive suit was wrinkled.
His eyes were red.
He looked nothing like the confident man from the night before.
He dropped to his knees.
"Clara..."
Everyone became silent.
"Please."
He grabbed his hands together.
"I made a mistake."
"I was stupid."
"I was scared."
"I'll change."
Clara looked down at him.
For a moment...
She remembered the man she thought he was.
Their first date.
Their late-night conversations.
The dreams they had shared.
Then she remembered his words.
"She's a total loser."
"I'll control her shares."
"Everything she owns will become mine."
Tears slowly filled her eyes.
But her voice remained steady.
"I can't marry someone who never loved me."
Evan lowered his head.
"Clara, please..."
"I can fix this."
She shook her head.
"No."
"You can't fix something you never believed was broken."
The crowd watched as Clara removed the engagement ring.
The same ring Evan had chosen months earlier.
The ring that once represented forever.
She placed it gently in his hand.
"I hope someday you find someone you love."
Evan looked up.
Hope appeared in his eyes.
Then Clara finished:
"But I hope that person never loves you the way I loved you."
She turned around.
Her father placed a hand on her shoulder.
Together...
They walked away.
Leaving Evan alone at the altar.
But what Clara didn't know...
Was that Evan had not told the entire truth.
Because after everyone left...
He returned to the hotel room.
Opened his suitcase.
And removed a hidden envelope.
Inside was an old photograph.
A photograph of Clara's mother.
On the back of the picture...
There was a handwritten message.
A message that made Evan's hands shake.
"Find the truth about the Bennett family."
"And you will understand why you were chosen."
Evan stared at the words.
Because suddenly...
He realized something terrifying.
May you like
Maybe he wasn't the only person who had been lying.
Maybe Clara's family had a secret too.
