Chapter 3

Twenty minutes later...
A black luxury sedan stopped outside.
A gray-haired attorney stepped through the front door carrying a leather briefcase.
His name was Daniel Brooks.
He had represented Robert for nearly thirty years.
Daniel immediately sensed the tension.
"Good afternoon."
No one answered.
Robert pointed toward the kitchen table.
"Please sit."
Daniel opened his briefcase.
Inside were neatly organized folders.
Trust agreements.
Corporate records.
Property deeds.
Investment portfolios.
Robert folded his hands.
"Ethan believes he's entitled to everything."
Daniel adjusted his glasses.
"Is that correct?"
Ethan crossed his arms.
"I'm his only son."
Daniel nodded politely.
"That is true."
Ethan smirked.
For one brief moment...
He believed he had already won.
Then Daniel opened a blue folder.
"There is one detail you appear to have forgotten."
Robert quietly watched.
Daniel slid a document across the table.
"This estate was completely restructured seven years ago."
Ethan frowned.
"What?"
Daniel continued calmly.
"After Mrs. Harrison survived her second heart surgery..."
"Mr. Harrison transferred nearly all family assets into an irrevocable charitable trust."
The room froze.
Chelsea blinked.
Marlene leaned forward.
Greg removed his glasses.
Daniel continued.
"The Harrison Foundation now legally owns the business."
"The investment accounts."
"The vacation property."
"And this home."
Ethan stared in disbelief.
"What does that mean?"
Daniel answered without emotion.
"It means none of those assets belong to you."
"They don't even belong directly to your parents anymore."
"They are protected."
Ethan's confidence completely collapsed.
"There has to be something."
Daniel nodded.
"There is."
Robert quietly placed another document onto the table.
"Our personal wills."
Ethan reached for them.
Robert stopped him.
"Not yet."
His voice remained calm.
"I'll decide who reads them."
For the first time...
May you like
Ethan realized he no longer controlled the conversation.
He barely controlled his breathing.
