Chapter 23 - Frank Divorced Lydia and Stopped Asking Me to Forgive Her
Frank’s divorce from Lydia finalized while she was incarcerated.
Property division recognized forfeiture and restitution.
He kept a smaller Charleston home.
The estate was sold.
Not because government seized entire house.
Because neither wanted/could maintain it after legal costs and division.
Sale proceeds were divided after liens and obligations.
The pool went to strangers.
I never returned.
Frank visited Lydia twice in prison.
Then stopped.
He told me:
“She wants me to tell Ethan she’s changed.”
“Has she?”
“I don’t know.”
“Then don’t.”
He laughed sadly.
“You sound like Ruth.”
Wrong story attorney? Here Rachel. “You sound like Rachel.”
He corrected.
“Rachel.”
At sixty-nine, Frank volunteered with local maritime museum and became quieter.
He never asked me to forgive Lydia.
That was growth.
He apologized once.
“I let her talk to you that way because confronting her made home difficult.”
“Yes.”
“I taught Ethan same cowardice.”
I looked at him.
“He chose it too.”
“I know.”
We did not turn Frank into saint.
He had failed.
