Chapter 7 - HANGAR NINE

Hangar Nine stood on private land beside Hale Tactical’s main testing field.

My father had designed it for Sentinel’s first aircraft trial.

After his death, the hangar became a memorial site used for board ceremonies.

General Keene chose it because every wall carried Robert’s name.

He wanted to take the company inside the place Robert built to protect it.

The Hale Tactical directors received a message claiming I had suffered a violent breakdown after exposure to classified material.

Keene said I poisoned my own son and attacked my mother.

He presented Sophia’s forged psychiatric records.

The company board believed federal investigators were attempting a hostile seizure of Sentinel.

Daniel arranged for me to attend under an emergency shareholder provision.

Mara entered with me as legal military security.

Federal teams surrounded the airfield but remained outside until Keene committed an arrestable act in front of witnesses or the court approved the final warrant.

Keene stood beneath the suspended Sentinel prototype wearing his dress uniform.

Argent Defense executives sat at a long table.

Eleanor was not there.

Audrey remained in custody.

Keene smiled when I entered.

“Lucas, you should be receiving treatment.”

“My son is receiving treatment because your people drugged him.”

Several directors looked toward one another.

Keene raised Sophia’s forged records.

“Your wife has a history of delusion. Your own family confirms it.”

“My family is under arrest.”

“Because an ambitious investigator accepted manipulated camera footage.”

Mara placed the nursery recording on the main screen.

Eleanor struck Sophia.

Audrey blocked the stairs.

Price handed over guardianship documents.

Keene’s voice directed the operation.

The directors watched in silence.

Keene did not panic.

“Artificial audio.”

Daniel entered carrying Robert’s recovered navigation recorder.

“Then perhaps Colonel Hale’s final flight was artificial too.”

Keene’s expression changed.

Daniel played the recording.

My father demanded the route be canceled.

Eleanor admitted knowing.

Robert accused Keene of helping kill him.

One board member stood.

“David, what is this?”

“A dying pilot under extreme stress.”

“The route authorization came from your terminal.”

“Robert requested it.”

“The mechanic’s notebook says otherwise.”

Keene looked toward the exits.

Mara’s officers moved closer.

He removed a small control device from his pocket.

The hangar doors locked.

An alarm began sounding.

Keene had connected the building to the Sentinel prototype’s emergency security system.

“Every copy of the data leaves this room with my authorization,” he said.

Daniel held up the trust documents.

“The sale cannot proceed without Lucas.”

Keene looked at me.

“That is why he came.”

A side door opened.

Two armed contractors entered with Audrey between them.

She had been taken during a transport change arranged through a forged military order.

A restraint encircled her wrists.

Keene had rescued the accomplice most likely to testify against him.

He pressed a pistol beneath her jaw.

“Sign the sale.”

Audrey looked at me.

“Do not.”

Keene tightened his grip.

“You spent six months helping us.”

“I know.”

“You wanted the money.”

“I know.”

“Then stop pretending one frightened moment makes you decent.”

Audrey’s face collapsed.

“It does not.”

She looked at me.

“But I can still stop helping him.”

Keene placed the sale documents on the table.

Argent’s chief executive looked pale.

“This was not part of our agreement.”

Keene pointed the weapon toward him.

“You purchased access to military data for seventeen years. Do not discover ethics now.”

The statement entered every microphone inside the boardroom.

Mara’s team was recording.

“Sign,” Keene ordered me.

I moved toward the table.

“Release Audrey first.”

“You do not negotiate.”

“You need my biometric confirmation. If I sign under visible coercion, the transfer fails.”

Daniel had added that protection after Eleanor’s first attempt.

Keene knew it.

He pushed Audrey toward one contractor.

Then he stood beside me as I placed my hand near the biometric reader.

“Your father chose a company over his family,” he whispered.

“No. He discovered his family had already chosen you.”

His jaw tightened.

I pressed the reader.

The screen displayed:

TRANSFER REJECTED.

INDEPENDENT TRUST FREEZE ACTIVATED.

Daniel had already triggered the emergency provision using the recovered evidence.

Keene raised his pistol.

Audrey struck the fire alarm with her restrained hands.

Foam suppression exploded from the ceiling.

The lights vanished behind white vapor.

Mara moved first.

She drove Keene’s weapon arm toward the table.

I pulled Audrey away.

The contractors dropped their guns when federal officers entered through the emergency panels.

Keene fired once.

The bullet struck the Sentinel prototype above us.

Metal fragments fell across the floor.

Mara controlled his wrist while three agents secured him.

He looked at me from the ground.

“You think courts will protect what your father built?”

“No.”

I stared down at him.

“That is why no single person controls it anymore.”

Keene was removed in handcuffs.

The company board surrendered every Argent contract.

Then Daniel opened a sealed folder recovered from Keene’s briefcase.

It contained one final attempt to take Leo’s trust.

A paternity petition claimed Major Nolan Price was Leo’s biological father.

Sophia’s signature appeared beneath the statement.

Continue to the next part: Lucas must prove that the conspiracy forged his son’s identity before Keene’s allies can separate Leo from both parents.
