Chapter 6 - The Trust beneath the Farm

After the Second World War, the federal government transferred several farms into a program supporting injured veterans and their families.
The Carter farm was one.
My grandfather became steward, not unrestricted owner.
The family could live there, farm it, and pass stewardship to descendants.
Subsurface rights, transportation access, and major sale authority remained with the Veterans Agricultural Trust.
The trust had become dormant after its records disappeared during agency restructuring.
Helix discovered the old rights while planning the technology corridor.
If the Carter family signed a private sale, Briggs intended to present the deed as proof that the trust no longer had active beneficiaries.
Helix could then seek control of the underground corridor.
The land’s surface value was twelve million.
The hidden access rights could be worth hundreds of millions.
My parents did not know.
Claire knew only part.
Martin Vale knew more.
Briggs knew enough to create deaths, incapacity reports, and false heirs.
My aunt Rebecca may have discovered everything decades earlier.
The trust listed one current protector.
Rebecca Anne Carter.
If my aunt remained alive, she controlled the right to challenge Helix.
That explained why her identity had been copied into Meridian Rural Protection.
Briggs needed a false Rebecca to approve the deal.
Major Sloan’s records provided the mask.
My aunt’s history provided the authority.
The camera server may have been created by the real Rebecca to expose the false company.
Or Briggs created it to gather leverage.
The trust also included a succession rule.
If Rebecca died or became incapable, authority passed to Robert Carter.
If Robert became incapable, it passed to the oldest living child of the steward family.
Me.
Claire needed my parents declared incapable and me declared dead.
Every forged document served the trust sequence.
Then she could claim authority as my surviving spouse.
My wife was not only stealing a farm.
She was moving herself into a federal survivor fund.
Military investigators froze all trust related transfers.
Helix announced that Briggs acted independently.
Internal emails showed senior executives discussing the dormant rights.
One wrote:
Family resolution must occur before Captain Carter returns.
Another answered:
Briggs controls spouse pathway.
The company knew a deployed soldier’s marriage was being used to alter land authority.
Whether every executive knew about the physical abuse remained under investigation.
No employee needed to lose work while leadership records were preserved.
Helix’s active defense contracts continued under outside review.
Its land division stopped operating.
Colonel Briggs disappeared before police reached his home.
His passport showed no travel.
A private aircraft left from a Helix facility hours after my arrival at the farm.
Passenger records listed Rebecca Carter.
The aircraft landed in Maine.
No passenger exited through the public terminal.
Claire claimed Briggs planned to meet my aunt.
She did not know whether Rebecca worked with him or against him.
Diane Mercer remained missing too.
Dr. Elaine Mercer surrendered after her medical license entered emergency suspension.
She denied knowing my parents were imprisoned.
The hidden videos showed her standing beside the coop while my father asked for help.
She said Claire told her the confinement was voluntary safety care.
My father’s tied wrists contradicted that.
Elaine admitted signing capacity reports from Claire’s descriptions.
She blamed Diane.
“Diane said Margaret became violent.”
“Did you examine Margaret?” the investigator asked.
“No.”
“Did you see her bruises?”
“Yes.”
“Did you report them?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“My sister said the family had legal authority.”
Professional language had replaced ordinary morality.
An injured woman asked for help.
Elaine looked for permission first.
Diane’s burner phone produced another trail.
She communicated with a person saved as RC.
The messages included my deployment schedule, Claire’s payments, my parents’ medication, and instructions concerning the camera.
Keep Robert alive.
Margaret must appear frightened but coherent.
Daniel needs one clear recording of Claire admitting motive.
Do not allow Briggs to remove the old deed.
The sender wanted evidence against Claire and Briggs.
The sender also allowed abuse to continue.
If RC was Rebecca Carter, my aunt had designed a controlled disaster around my family.
If Briggs used the initials, he may have been manipulating Diane against Claire.
Diane sent one final message before disappearing.
The soldier returned early. Claire panicked. Vale has the case. What now?
RC answered:
Let Daniel open the coop.
The timing disturbed me.
My early return had not been random.
A military transport originally scheduled for the next day changed route because someone submitted an urgent family welfare request in my name.
The request came from Meridian Rural Protection.
Someone arranged for me to reach the farm during the signing.
They wanted the confrontation recorded.
My parents’ rescue was real.
It was also timed by an unseen person.
At the hospital, my mother asked whether I regretted coming home early.
“No.”
“Even if someone used you?”
“I still opened the gate.”
She touched my hand.
“That part belonged to you.”
Her words separated manipulation from choice.
Someone placed me near the coop.
I chose to break the chain.
Claire chose to laugh.
Briggs chose to forge my death.
Martin chose to burn records.
Rebecca, if alive, chose to wait.
Each action remained its owner’s responsibility.
My father opened the bloodstained signature page again.
A watermark appeared beneath hospital light.
VAULT NINE.
The same words appeared in the dormant veterans trust.
The page Claire forced him to sign was not a normal deed.

It was an access instrument for a sealed archive beneath the farm.
Continue to the next part: Robert’s bloodstained signature page can open a hidden archive that both Helix and the veterans trust have concealed for decades.
