Chapter 7 - THE WOMAN INSIDE MY HOUSE

The trust revoked every known access code to the mansion.
Celeste remained inside.
Estate cameras showed her entering through an old service tunnel beneath the seawall. The tunnel had been built after a hurricane damaged the original foundation.
My grandmother sealed it years ago.
Ethan knew it existed.
He did not know Celeste possessed the mechanical key.
Only Eleanor, Caroline, and the original architect had copies.
Caroline disappeared before the current mansion was completed.
Yet the access system accepted her key pattern.
Celeste reached the library archive and closed the steel door from inside.
She carried Eleanor’s ledger, my stolen identification, and several document cases.
Garrick was not visible.
His phone remained inside the mansion.
He may have been hiding with her.
He may have left through the tunnel.
We did not know.
Law enforcement and private estate security established a perimeter. Nobody entered immediately because the archive contained protected legal records and an old fire suppression system that Celeste could trigger.
She requested to speak with me.
Abigail opposed direct contact.
I agreed only through a secured video connection.
Celeste appeared inside the archive wearing a white suit and pearl earrings. My grandmother’s brass master key rested around her neck.
“You look like Eleanor,” she said.
“I hope I choose differently.”
“She taught you to fear your husband.”
“Garrick taught me that.”
Celeste smiled.
“He lost control for one moment.”
“He prepared false medical records for months.”
“He was protecting himself.”
“From my consent?”
“From your grandmother’s manipulation.”
She opened the original ledger.
The first pages contained writing I recognized as Eleanor’s.
The oldest entries used another hand.
Caroline’s.
My mother had written the first Caroline Blue investment plan before the boating accident.
The company name had not originated with my grandmother.
Eleanor reactivated something Caroline created.
Celeste claimed my mother discovered the Rowan property network while working at a coastal legal clinic. She copied account records and threatened to expose Garrick’s grandfather.
Then she vanished at sea.
“What are you suggesting?”
“That Eleanor arranged the accident.”
My body went cold.
Celeste offered no proof.
She held up a letter carrying Caroline’s signature.
It accused Eleanor of using family trusts to control both daughters.
Nora leaned closer to the monitor.
“What daughters?”
Celeste looked directly at her.
“Caroline knew where you were.”
Nora’s face changed.
She had spent years believing her mother searched unsuccessfully.
Celeste claimed Caroline maintained secret contact with the Bell family and placed part of Caroline Blue in Nora’s name.
That might explain the payment created before Eleanor officially found her.
Nora could have been a protected owner from the beginning.
Or Celeste could be combining true documents with lies.
Abigail demanded that she surrender the records for independent examination.
Celeste laughed.
“Your office helped Garrick steal them.”
“My former administrator did.”
“Convenient.”
The archive camera shifted.
A second person stood behind Celeste.
Owen Price.
He had supposedly remained under legal restriction at his attorney’s home.
He now held a laptop connected to the trust network.
Someone had helped him leave.
Celeste had not entered the mansion only to hide.
She intended to complete another transfer.
Owen activated a dormant asset schedule.
A reserve worth sixty four million dollars appeared.
The reserve contained proceeds from maritime property sold after Caroline disappeared.
It had never been included in the inheritance summaries I received.
The beneficiary designation remained sealed.
Celeste entered my stolen identification.
The system requested live confirmation.
She looked toward the camera.
“That is why Garrick needed you frightened but conscious.”
The roadside abandonment had been designed to obtain my signature after distress.
When that failed, they planned to use medical guardianship.
Now Celeste possessed the biometric archive.
She attempted artificial authorization.
The trust rejected it.
SECONDARY BENEFICIARY APPROVAL REQUIRED.
Nora’s brass key began vibrating inside Abigail’s evidence case.
The reserve recognized her.
Nora stared at me.
“I may already own part of this.”
Before anyone responded, Celeste entered another command.
MATERNAL GRANTOR OVERRIDE.
The system accepted the first stage.
The approving identity appeared.
Caroline Shaw.

My missing mother had authorized access eight days earlier.
Continue to the next part: A current authorization in Caroline’s name forces Amelia to question whether her mother survived the boating accident or whether someone has spent decades using her identity.
