Chapter 14 - LAURA’S SEALED INSTRUCTION
Laura Whitaker did not leave me money.
Again, the simplest dramatic interpretation was wrong.
Her will contained a sealed instruction.
Not a bequest.
The document was stored with Samuel Dean, her trust attorney.
He had not released it because the trigger never occurred.
Trigger:
If Christine’s spouse ever becomes involved in a dispute concerning Whitaker Precision archives, disclose.
At the time Laura wrote it, Christine was not married.

I had not been satisfied.

So Voss had reason to fear me before Thomas.

A safe deposit envelope.

Christine.
And if Christine married him:
Daniel Carter.
Why me?
Because Laura wanted two person access.
Neither Thomas nor sons.

Thomas never opened?
Seal intact.
Christine opened as authorized estate beneficiary.
Laura wrote:
Thomas,
If Daniel ever learns the truth, the person he will come for is not you.
Stop protecting Graham.
He is the reason Copperline still owns our family.
Thomas had kept the sealed letter for years and never opened it.
Why?
Maybe fear.
Maybe he knew enough.
Then my encrypted phone vibrated.
A current location ping.
Not from federal system.
From the key’s envelope.
A hidden tracker?
No.
The flash drive contained an old contingency beacon. When decrypted, it transmitted to a dead drop account.
Someone had been waiting for Laura’s archive to open.
Rebecca called immediately.
“Daniel, we have movement.”
“Where?”
“Voss.”
Finally.
A camera at Nashville private rail terminal caught him boarding a northbound freight linked service? Too cinematic. Better highway toll camera.
His rental vehicle crossed into Kentucky.

Then another alert.
He had just accessed a bank vault in Louisville.
